BEN STEIN: Welcome, teachers, to the Teacher’s Lounge. This is where you’ll get a chance to be with one another, and it’s also where you’ll get your assignment for the day. After each challenge, the teachers with the highest and lowest ratings on our evaluation scale will be sent to The Principal’s Office. One of you will be chosen for the honor roll, and one of you…

  1. Love this! Teachers are faced with a unique set of problems in situations like this that professions don’t. Hope you continue this story, er…reality show.

    1. Thanks! This is one of those things I can completely picture playing out in my head, but it’s tricky to translate into writing…

  2. I read the comment above and must say that you translated it into writing amazingly well. This not only “reads” without a glitch, but I can see the characters and their smiling faces and their body language, not to mention hearing Ben Stein’s drone … and IF ONLY it were a just a show, not reality … oh and from what I am seeing on some social media, teachers trying to apply classroom rules to distance learning are in danger of being “expelled” (IT. IS. NOT. THE. SAME.). The kids are working at home! Many teachers are trying to manage their own little ones ANDd tele-teach (I nominate them all for the Top Teacher prize). And – I love Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Always have. πŸ™‚

    1. As a resident of the place where Ferris Bueller was filmed (my kids go to the high school where it, and The Breakfast Club was filmed), it’s always been a favorite.

I could see this as an SNL skit maybe, or Key&Peele when they were on…

      1. T-O-T-A-L-L-Y! I was so thinking along the lines of something like SNL. Or just your own show: Lainie Levin Live (if you do this please hire me 😬)

  3. Wow! This is great. The pace was so real. I was thinking writers theatre, movie, chat show. You compiled it well and brought it to reality, Exactly what we teachers have to concoct daily. Super writing. Impressive. I would have never have thought to write a piece like this.

  4. Oh I loved this!!! Pretty accurate and the game show host I had in mind was Joey Tribbiani. I kept reading it in that character’s voice & then you threw in Ben Stein in his role from my absolutely favorite movie! 5 Stars.
