Slice of Life Day 20: Ask and You Shall Receive

A notebook that reads "Ridiculously Good Ideas"

Yesterday, I wrote about how I was stuck on a story I’m working on.

Bad news: I’m still stuck.

Good news: I’ve got advice and direction, thanks to some wise fifth-graders. A sampling of their thoughtful feedback:

Screen shot of some fiction, along with comments offering advice

Ask me how lucky I am to have them…

Thanks, as always, for the Two Writing Teachers March Slice of Life Story Challenge. Check ’em out!

  1. OMG, I especially like that last suggestion about smell! Kudos to the author that thought to include how the characters small, and kudos to the student who decided that smell could change according to their state of character (if I’ve got that right.) again, thanks for taking us into your class with your ready-to-deliver kiddos.

    1. Thanks, Fran! We’ve been studying allegorical fiction, and lots of students (and I!) settled on physical manifestations of the problems we were passionate about. (Have you ever read Chris van Allsberg’s The Wretched Stone?)

  2. Omg this is hilarious. They should smell different, but not stinky yet… your fifth graders are invested!!! Love how you incorporate being stuck into this slice. Writing, sharing, and giving truly in action here!

    1. Thanks! And for the record, I’m still stuck-ish, but we’ll see what happens if I keep on typing. Maybe some magic will work its way into my keyboard…
