Slice of Life Day 20: All it Takes

When you get up on the wrong side of the bed,
And you’re a crabby ole patty,
And your worries
And your anxieties
Ball up in your belly,
And you want to say nice things
About people,
Or you want to say nice things
Like hooray! the forsythia’s blooming!
But your mood is a dark cloud looming,
And you’re pretty sure
That even if the glass were half full
You’d probably spill it anyway

Sometimes

All it takes is a country song,
Son-sent
From thousands of miles away,
To remind you
That love still
Holds power.

  1. It’s like loved ones can tell when we’re having a bad day & know just what to send that gives us a glimmer of positivity. I hope tomorrow is better for you.

  2. Sorry your day was a stinker. I can relate this week! How quickly our day can change when we are reminded how much we are loved. Kudos to your son for being that bright spot for you today.

  3. When things go wrong sometimes you just need to stop. Luckily, someone somewhere seems to know what you need and sends it your way. A big glass of wine also helps. Hope tomorrow is better.

  4. This is a beautiful slice. The lines “And you’re pretty sure/That even if the glass were half full/You’d probably spill it anyway” really resonated with me. I have felt that way on many occasions before. I also agree with “Hooray! The forsythia’s blooming!” because those bright boughs of flowers always make me happy in the gloomiest of months.

    1. Thanks! I feel a little sorry for the forsythia right now. It snowed all day today! Hoping when the weather clears those blossoms will hold strong…

  5. Awww…I had to go listen to the song but it’s pretty obvious why and how this changed your mood. What a gift from far away.

It’s not always easy to know what to pay attention to but it seems like you figured it out this time! ;0

    1. It was. You know, that guy has an uncanny sixth sense about his mama, that’s for sure. And this one was much-needed. =)
