Today marks Day 17 of the Slice of Life challenge. Join me as I work to write every day in March – and beyond!
You can keep your corned beef
And your cabbage
And your potatoes
And your soda bread
And your whisky
Never mind about those shamrocks
Or leprechauns
Or parades
Or wearing of the green
The luck I find
Comes to me
In tokens of love:
Reminders from friends
That I am missed
And thought of
And appreciated.
Of course, I had to look up an Irish saying on friendship: “There are good ships and there are wood ships, Ships that sail the sea, But the best ships are friendships, May they always be.” Lucky you, indeed!
I love this quotation. And now it’s got me thinking about all the “ships” that fill my sails – friendships, relationships, partnership…
I like how you structured this as a list and ended with what is most important!!
Thank you!
If a man knows friendship, he is truly lucky. This is a great post that reminds us that there is luck to be found every day if we only look for it. 😉
Absolutely! And hopefully that luck is the GOOD kind. I’ve been known to find the other one from time to time!
I enjoyed your take on this day. And you are right, a friend who feeds you is a lucky thing indeed. Enjoy the meal
Ohhhh I did! I meant to snap and post a photo of the deliciousness, but I ate it too quickly. I’ll just blame it on a teacher-length lunch period!
Having a good friend is luck beyond compare. Someone who knows us, loves us, and accepts us. This is a blessing.
It sure is!
I love how you speak such an important message in such ‘light-hearted’ sounding lines. Love the rhythm!
And a good friend who actually thinks of you and does something to show they care is such a rarity..
Thanks so much for your encouragement! I also agree with you. Good friends like this are wonderful to have, and I’m incredibly grateful that I have no shortage of them.
Loved your poem. This line was my favorite-
The luck I find

Reminders from friends
Thank you! Thought I’d do a little play with the coin theme there.
That looks scrumptious! Clearly this bearer of love-tokens considers YOU a lucky gift as well. I am chuckling over the diversity here and am reminded that today at dismissal, I saw a little Mexican girl proudly wearing a beautiful green shirt festooned with “Irish Sweetie.” SO cute.
I appreciate how your list BUILDS us up to what truly matters! Those that know us, good friends. I like how you’re spending today outside of the normal traditions.
At the end of the day our “luck” comes from our true friends and family. That soup kit looks delicious. You have me wanting to try some.
That looks really really tasty, you definitely are lucky!
